Vocations

What is a vocation?

Am I called to have only one, a few, or many?

If I have more than one?

Will I know when to give up one for the other, or must I be attentive to my chosen vocation/s?

All these questions yet no one was able to give me any of the answers I sought.

Many years later, I came to realize that I was the only one who could answer these questions.

Today, I had a dear friend 🧑 come to get a Shampoo/ Haircut/ Style for her Birthday weekend.

Upon handing her a mirror to see the finished product a smile as big as the state of Texas came across her face. She was so very grateful, thanking me numerous times.

As she was once a Cosmetologist in her own right, her words meant the world to me.

After she had gone, she texted me one more time asking, “Did I mention I love my haircut?” with three πŸ₯°πŸ€£πŸ₯°

As I read her comment onceΒ  more, I was reminded why I chose Cosmetology as my first vocation, and the mission statement I made for myself many decades before floated to the forefront of my mind.

I texted back, “Yes, I believe you did thank me once or twice.”😁 and texted my Mission Statement to her:

“It warms my heart to hear I was able to help another feel as beautiful on the outside as they truly are on the inside.”

As I have journeyed through my life thus far, my first vocation complimented my second and most cherished vocation of all being a wife and mother of six, and grandmother our four and counting.  Highly the best vocation, I have had the honor to be given, and one I cherish most.

My third vocation encompasses my family, my parents and siblings, even my Church friends and those of my children and grandchildren, which has spanned three and a half decades a vocation of teaching religion, the Sacraments, and music ministry to children, teens, and adults. What a calling and an honor to have been called to share and lead so many in learning our Faith and praising the Lord through music.

My third vocation was a calling to homeschool our younger two children as well as simultaneously learning about healing by using less evasive ways to care for family ailments through a more holistic approach.Β

This third vocation has continued to aid, help, and support my children, their families and grandchildren.

To see how the Lord saw fit to guide me on a path to seek not one but several vocations and compliment the next strengthens my conviction to hold fast to the understanding that God is indeed my Rock. He alone is my Strength, and He alone guides me and never leaves me.

Praise be to My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen πŸ™
