Ever have a day that just seems to be filling up with negative experiences, situations, and even people?
When my journey begins to look like my cup is draining faster than I can refill it, like clockwork, an uplift song from my past will begin to bubble up, and I find myself humming a tune, as the positive lyrics come forth. Once most of the pertinent lyrics have assembled, I move from whistling the happy tune to full on singing them outloud, shaking the rafters of my roof, until a spring in my step reappears, and I can feel the negative frequency dissipating back into a peacefully positive energy once again.
For example, yesterday my youngest grandbaby woke up on the wrong side of the bed and was less than refreshed from her two hour nap. As I cuddled her less than happy dappy self, a song I used to sing into my hairbrush, when I was 13, popped into my head.
It was Neil Sedaka’s song, “You Gotta Make Your Own Subshine!”
I started softly singing it lackadaisically, as she was a real Grumpasaur, and she stopped fussing and looked up at me as she had not ever heard the song before.
I picked up the beat just a bit, as she sat up in my lap and said, “Sing it again, Grandma!”
As this is the best request ever from anyone under seven (7) as we all know, they have a no holds bar, when it comes to being honest, I continued.
Being of increased age, 🤔 🤣 I am always surprised at how many songs I remember, but remember them I do, and this song brought a very big smile back to my little munchkin’s fussy little face.
I tend to know more music created for glorifying Our Lord, but there are a few secular songs that lift my spirits as well, and this one lifted our spirits yesterday, and I pray, it does the same for whomever stumbles onto this random post.
Bottomline; with every God -given Gift you have been given, let them out-shine the darkness.
