The third commandment:
Keep Holy the Lord’s Day.
As of late, this commandment has been placed in front of me to really delve into and think about this particular commandment. It seems straightforward and relatively simple to keep, but is it? Especially, now living through what seems to be a Topsy turrvy world.
My life has always been filled with music, and I find it interesting our family business that my parents began, when I was just five years old, centered around background music in order to help reduce stress, inspire positivity in work spaces, and my very first tap dance recital at age five was called Topsy Turrvey World.
I still remember the finale moves and the tag line; “This world is up (arms up hands over head), side (arms out-stretched from either side of body) down.” (bend over and touch your toes and tap toes three times) No one can tell me that God does not continually give us the tools we will need to get through our journey here on earth. Just that recital and song began to teach me that everything is not as it seems. I cannot tell you how many times in my life, I have unintentionally used the phrase, “This world is so topsy turrvey!” Instantly, I remember that tap dance and song.
As I look back, it was such a simple song, but one that inspired me to look beyond what is placed in front of me. To read before and after written text, to seek out commentary, to look for the signs and symbols, reference to whom the teacher was teaching and to whom they were writing to, and from that preaching and teaching what fruits came from them.
For instance; when we keep the commandments, we find peace within or souls, and when we deviate from following them, chaos surrounds, leaving us restless in heart, mind body and soul.
This contemplation to the third commandment: “Keep Holy the Lord’s Day!” has been pushed to the forefront in my mind, ever since Advent 2023, when I heard a Roman Catholic apologist, who happened to be talking about how we fall short of keeping this seemingly easy to follow commandment, and how we, as Roman Catholics have been white-washing this very purposeful day of rest.
How silly we humans are to fall into the evil ones plot to distract us from focusing on the very One, who breathed life into us, and surrounds us every moment of every day with signs He is the Great, I am!
Moving through this week toward another moment in time we are called to Keep Holy the Lord’s Day, I pray I will move to do just that.
