Got out early on Saturday morning as the meteorologists were telling us, it was going to be a hot one in the valley. Boy, the fear-mongering was intense, if anyone carried to believe them.
Only hit 101 for an hour and went back down to 65 by nightfall on Saturday.
Sunday was glorious with much the same temperatures, praise the Lord.
Monday was only 92, but went back down to 68, and was just lovely.
We know the heat will come, and as we do we move through it.
So grateful to have a much better early yield of herbs of apple mint, basil, bay leaf, Calendula flowers, dill, elderberries, lemon balm, Marigold flowers, oregano, rosehips, rosemary, white and yellow sage, and spearmint. As well as aloe vera, berries, Kentucky green beans, yellow onions, and strawberries, tomatoes, already producing.
Last year, it was a struggle, as the aerial spraying was intense, and the heat it produced, made it hard for most home gardeners, but we had enough for a few families.
Tomorrow, I need to check on my nectarine, pear and plum trees as well as my red flame grape vines produced for the first time last year, blowing us away by their yield.
This year I was afforded time to properly prune the trees and vines in early March, but last week both the vines and trees looked like they had never been pruned at all.
On tomorrow’s to-do list, plan is to trim off the bottom half of the grape clusters, so they produce larger grapes, tie up the kiwi vines, and check my thornless Blackberry bushes for more ripe berries.
Yes, I did opt for thornless bushes. My Mom and Dad did not raise no dummy.😉
Enjoy your day/evening or night, and go out and grow something. Even if it is a simple cutting from a house plant stuck in water or spouting alfalfa seeds in a mason jar.
We came from the Ultimate Creator of our Universe. What better way to reconnect with Him, than working hand in hand with His Creation. ✝️
