Just like the return to Zion brought about rejoicing from the Israelities as they finally reached the Holy City, we to must find that joy of giving thanks and praise to Our Lord, Who is ever present in our lives, guiding us with every step we take.
If we ever hope to be with Him forever, we must cultivate and work hard to create a grateful heart for all the Lord blesses us with. God yearns for us, all, to be with Him forever in Heaven, but we must ask for it.
To aid in our ability to trust in God and His Promises, we can learn from Psalm 126 about how the Israelities came to understand just being present in the Holy City was not enough. Praising His Name with a joyful songs was not enough. They learned through their trials and doubting during their desert journey that they must trust the Lord and ask for blessings and prosperity not for a moment in time but always. The psalmist shares how they understand they must work hard to keep Our Lord in the forefront of the work that needed to be done to make this Holy City flourish as they cultivated the land that surrounded them. They still needed to have faith and ask for God’s help to fill the dried stream beds of Negeb, so the seeds they brought with them would be able to come to life.
I see this psalm as also a metaphor for the barren lands of our hearts and the hearts of those closed off to all the Mercy and Love He is waiting patiently to pour into our heart. He so desires to water and nourish the seeds of Faith, Hope, and Trust, He has so lovingly planted within each and every heart on this planet.
Take up a watering can for the Lord, and go out and be His Handmaid and Servant, and help water the seeds of Faith, Hope, and Trust in all who are placed in your path. Dare to share the great things the Lord has done for us with a joyful heart.
