Keep Holy the Lord’s Day or Honor the Mother and Father.

This evening, as I helped my two older granddaughters get to bed, they started asking me about Sunday being a day of rest. They shared how they were confused about the commandment, “Keep Holy the Lord’s Day!” and if it was a day of rest, why do parents tell their kids to do chores on Sunday, and use, the commandment; “Honor your mother and father.” Both girls were puzzled,  saying if we are supposed to keep all the commandments, how do we keep both.

I said, “Let’s look it up what Keeping Holy the Lord’s Day and Day of rest actually means for a Roman Catholic.

As we scrolled the internet, memories flooded my mind of when my Mom was teaching my younger two boys the Faith. I could so feel my Mom’s presence surrounding the three of us as we looked for an answer.
We came across an article written by “Catholic Today”.

I thought I randomly chose the article, but couldn’t help but notice the article was written on Feb 7, 2017.

Feb 7th was my parents’wedding anniversary, and I knew Momma was guiding us from above.

It was an amazing article that answered so many of their unanswered questions.
In the article, (See link below), it stated one particular activity that might help bring about family solidarity. The example was for a family to possibly attend a concert together.

We all paused and thought about how much work it is to minister music at a given Mass, and this posed a new set of questions:
What about the ones’ giving the concert?

What about the security personnel and ticket taker needing to be present for the event?

What about all those needed to set up/tear down and clean up they were having to work?

Would that be charity on their part, or

would ones going to concert be culpable for encouraging people to work on a Sunday?

It was a very interesting conversation, about in what spirit each person comes to honoring the Joy of the Lord on His Day.

Do we come with a Joyful heart filled with gratitude of Jesus Passion, Death and Resurrection opened to extending a hand in charity and  or open to a willingness to rest in the Spirit, depending on who or what God places before us on any given Sunday?

The fact that every Sunday we are celebrating Easter Sunday and all the Joy that should bring to us before, during, and after, not only in attendance at  Mass, but participating in the Holy Mass, if we allow such joy to consume our hearts, we will be given the Gifts of Wisdom to know how best to Honor the Lord’s Day and Honor your Mom and Day, and anyone else placed in our paths everyday of the week.
