Reacting vs. Responding

Ugh! Even though we might see a potential hill we are being asked to scale, we pray, ask for strength and guidance as to the best way to maneuver over the terrain. We plan our strategy, contemplating any delays, possible changes in weather patterns, and be prepare for any unexpected pitfalls. Then we move forward.

It is the first step that seems to be the hardest. As we move forward, the steps become easier, even as one can see the hill is coming into view, their nerves seem to have abated, and they begin to have a cautious spring in their step, and may even continue with songs of Praise and Gratitude for not having run into any major hurdles or massive roadblocks, preventing getting oneself to the base of the hill.

It is in mid-spring, the coil snaps, and all of one’s preparedness for the unexpected sails through the air, carrying with it, what one believes is their backbone, and they find they are reacting to the unrest with the tact of a four yr old having a temper tantrum. This is the moment the perverbial hill seems further away than the moment before. The person could care less of the increased distance for it seems the devil has ahold of every juvenile outburst, they are allowing themself to hoist onto the messenger, who turned over your apple cart of strength and courage.

Its times like these, a struggling perfectionist, can roll up in a ball and plan on never seeing the light of day again, or they can allow humility to cover them,, choose to get up off the ground, dust themselves off, and continue to praise the Lord.

For it not about how many barriers we are asked to conqueror, while pull ourselves over the hill. It is doing so without destroying others placed in our path to the hill.

Choosing to react or taking a moment to respond can make all the difference in the world.
